Apple Pies Here Today, getting ready for an apple festival in fall

Apple Pies Here Today
2001 20 x 20 $550
acrylic on canvas

My canvases

most often begin with an experiment,

but I think they are naïve art or folk art.

Drawings, designs, narratives and strong colors are important to me.

I have become fond of some motifs or symbols that I have used over and over,

especially apple trees, plowed land, and mountains that seem like they might be our

Mt. Hood or Mt. St. Helens.  My favorite of all time is the plowed rainbow, similar to the ones

seen in "TheWorld At Our Feet", below.  I know how to give depth to a scene, but I often

find that looks wrong to me. I don't as a person have the luxury of a unified point of view in my life.

There are many valid ones. They just have to "work" together in the whole construction of

a life or a painting. And paintings

are, after all, two dimensional, not three.
